The Temuka and Geraldine A&P Association has been running for over 144 years. The cornerstone and main event of the year is the Winchester Show which is held on the first Saturday in March.
Although we still retain many of the traditional events such as dog trails, horse events, wool and pet sections we have also introduced more modern events such as the future farmers and bachelor bake off. We recently introduced the poultry, alpacas and vintage section. These were huge successes with the poultry section attracting 126 entries and the alpacas attracting 83 entries.
We have strong focus on family at our show. This is highlighted by the strong school section which attracts over 1000 entries. It is said to be the largest in the country and is well supported by the local schools and community.
These events are supported by various trade stalls, sideshows and market alley. Our aim is to provide something for everyone.
Two years ago we introduced the Pet Parade and Junior Schedule. Our goal is have all ages involved in our family friendly day.
We also hold other fundraising events during the year. One of the popular ones is the horse training day. This is run in September and attracts many from throughout the district. We also hold a winter feed competition and dairy Bark Up competition. Not only do these provide fundraising opportunities but provide valuable socialising opportunities throughout the community.
As you can see the Temuka and Geraldine A & P Association provides a considerable service to the local community and extended rural areas.
